Peterson pursues recount bid in Iowa 3rd District

Waterloo attorney Stephen Peterson travels northeast Iowa to gather evidence for a recount of the 3rd District race. He seeks to overturn Rep. H R Gross’s razor thin 419 vote victory, aided by a $3,000 bond and a temporary injunction freezing ballots until Feb 1, 1965. Peterson plans a formal contest petition and an affidavit to the House Campaign Expenditures Committee, with party backing and an expected cost up to $10,000. The outcome hinges on irregularities in precincts, vote totals, and absentee ballots as the canvass awaits certification by the Iowa Executive Council and guidance from the attorney general.
