President Malcolm Price of Iowa State Teachers College learned that the naval training school for WAVED yeomen at the college will close after the last class graduates on April 30, 1945. No new trainees will be assigned after February 8. Plans call for reconditioning the women’s dormitory used as headquarters to be ready for civilian women by June 4.

Mrs Vern Lytle Shanafelt died early this morning at Washington county hospital after a several year illness. Burial will be at Kimve cemetery with L A Jones Funeral Home in charge. She was born November 5, 1889 in Keota and married Clarence L Shanafelt in 1904. they lived in Sey mour and later moved to Wapello in 1955. She leaves her husband and a son Carl L Shanafelt, in the U S navy stationed in San Francisco.

Keokuk County News at Sigourney reports W. H. Needham sells the paper to C. E. and Harold Percue who take immediate possession. The News has been owned by the Needham family for 66 years since 1878. The four Needham sons started in the business. Charles K. Needham once ran the Washington Press and Grinnell Register. The new publishers previously owned Eddyville What Cheer and New Sharon papers. The son recently discharged from the army.
