Labor Saving Show Draws Nearly 1200 Farm Visitors
About 1,200 farm people from Washington and nearby counties toured the Labor Saving exhibit at Lincoln School on Saturday. The event, run by the Chamber of Commerce and Farm Bureau, showcased 17 labor saving displays with extension specialists explaining crops, soils, dairy and beef cattle, poultry, swine, farmstead planning, kitchen layouts, and household equipment. Volunteers from 4H clubs, women’s groups, and farm bureaus assisted throughout the day. youth groups helped unload and dismantle the setup and takedown efforts continued into the evening.

Carrie May Womelsdort aged seven died at 3 a.m. at Frank Schantz home 402 South Second Avenue after a year of fading health and two weeks of serious illness. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at L A Jones funeral home with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. She was born June 10 1880 in Henry county and is survived by a granddaughter Ruth Sehaniz and other relatives. Her daughter Mrs Schantz predeceased her on November 24, 1942.

Unemployment Claims Fall Sharply in Iowa Third Quarter
Des Moines reports show unemployment compensation claims for July through September 1947 at 6,868, down from 12,781 a year earlier, the lowest quarter since the war. The Iowa Employment Security commission notes the unemployment insurance trust fund rose by 2,459,924 in Q3, with total available benefits at 73,984,897 as of October 1. Interest on trust fund balances earned 368,638 in the quarter, while employer contributions totaled 2,517,004.
