Poultry Show Entries Placed At Washington County Fair
Entries for the annual Washington County poultry show arrived at city hall and officers predict the exhibit room will be filled with chickens and other poultry. Secretary Fred Downing reported entries from Packwood Iowa City Ottumwa Brighton Riverside and nearby areas. Judging begins tomorrow morning with handcraft division judging for women’s interests in the late afternoon. Booths are set along the west end and there will be displays of pheasants turkeys pigeons and ducks on the east end. The show is open to the public with no admission charge and large crowds are expected.

Laird Hawkins Found Guilty in Drunken Driving Case
Shortly before two o clock this afternoon the jury in the state against Laird Hawkins of Ainsworth returned a verdict of guilty on operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after about four hours of deliberation. County Attorney Richard A Stewart led the prosecution and L J Kehoe defended. A jury was to be selected that afternoon for the state case against William Crandall for assault with intent to commit great bodily injury.

Anna Marie Hahn a 32 year old condemned poison slayer awaits her eight o clock execution in Ohio. Her lawyers filed a federal habeas corpus petition to delay the death sentence arguing her trial rights were violated. Hahn has not eaten since learning Governor Davey refused clemency. Brenton, Tl Dec 7 One man is missing and eleven others were rescued after an explosion rocked the Old Ben coal mine at Pershing near Brenton. Rescue efforts were hampered by rock and slate falls. George McClellan, listed as missing, was among twelve men in the mine at the time. A prior explosion on Dec 1, 1929, had killed seven men.
