UPI reports November unemployment at 6.5 percent the highest in 13 years triggering a federal public works program. 6 million unemployed, factory jobs fall, and average work hours drop as slack grows across manufacturing and construction sectors.
Washington area residents are invited to hear the Christmas cantata God's Greatest Gift sung by a community chorus at Washington United Methodist Church. The vesper service begins at 4 30 p m on Sunday December 8 with carols for the congregation to join along and chorus members featured in solos. Ruth Shields directs the chorus.

Two Salix residents Van L Chadwick 25 and Diane Lindley 18 were released after questioning in Carlsbad New Mexico. Eddy County DA Dave Hougland said lie detector tests led to their release and no concrete leads remain in the triple homicide case in Sioux City.
Des Moines reports State Treasurer Maurice Baringer announced that 340000 raised for Terrace Hill renovation falls far short of the roughly 400000 needed to complete the Iowa governor's mansion project. Legislature had appropriated 200000 with an additional 140000 from commemorative sales.

Washington County Supervisors extend the ambulance service contract with Karl Jones and Richard Burns for six months to align with the fiscal year starting July 1. They will receive $17,430, half of the original price, for the extra term and may pursue a longer contract when bidding next year.

At the Kansas City convention open to more than 2,000 delegates, Democrats push for mandatory wage price and rent controls to curb inflation. The party endorses a plan for a new federal body to police controls, call for public service job expansion, tax reform, and energy conservation measures including possible gasoline rationing.
Gov. Robert D. Ray indicated he will meet Democratic leaders to review their legislative priorities before the 1975 session opens. He said talks with leaders in both houses are likely, and noted Democrats’ platform may guide the agenda. He stressed cooperation for good state legislation and commented on credit for transportation policy.
