The Federal Power Commission set the uniform natural gas price at 50 cents per thousand cubic feet, an 8 cent rise, predicting residential bills would rise 8 to over 16 percent by 1978. In 1978 increases vary by city with Washington DC at 11.44 percent, Boston 8.06, Chicago 15.92 and Los Angeles 16.46. Grand jury to report findings on Mondia death Friday
The grand jury, after two days of hearings on the Nov 23 death of Michael C Mondia, will present its findings in District Court at 10 a.m. on Friday Dec 13. Assistant county attorney Richard Bordwell, appointed to head the probe, said the report will be public in open court. Subpoenaed witness Shirley Cox, driver in the incident, was among those questioned. county attorney Tracy Anderson was unavailable for comment. Bordwell starts as county attorney Jan 2 and said the report’s date is the earliest court session available.

Edward Dickinson Named New Iowa Highway Patrol Chief
Edward Dickinson a 23 year veteran of the Iowa Highway Patrol was named the new chief by the state Department of Public Safety succeeding Col Howard Miller who resigned to coordinate statewide alcohol enforcement. Dickinson a Nevada Iowa native has served as planning and operations officer since August 1973 and previously as trooper sergeant and lieutenant. He will lead a 410 man force and said he wants closer contact with front line troopers while noting his service in the Marine Corps during World War II and his Ankeny home tornado experience.

Voters in Forest City Iowa approved a 2 818 000 bond for a new high school in a special election. It was the fourth try in five years after three prior attempts since December 1969. Turnout was heavy with 1 961 in favor to 1 218 against, about 62 percent.

Two Iowans killed in snowmobile crash
In Clinton County near Charlotte Iowans Wayne Borah 44 died and Margaret Bill 43 was injured as two snowmobiles collided on a hill crest. Dean Johnson 29 and Janice Fields 27 were seriously hurt and hospitalized at Maquoketa. A motorist discovered the wreckage.
