Hogs run 10 000 with most unsold and bids 25 to 50 cents lower. Good and choice hogs 180 to 300 pounds closed 24.25 to 24.50. some to 24.80. later bids 24.00 for the same grades. Cattle 10 000 with calves 1 009. fed steers and yearlings steady. slaughter steers 20.00 to 80.00. cows active firm to 25 cents higher. beef cows 13.00 to 15.50. vealers 25.00. bulls firm to 26.50 for heavy bulls, beef bulls to 17. Sheep 5 000 with early lambs steady. two loads 104 pounds. woolly lambs 24.50 to 25.00. yearlings and other bids mixed. slaughter sheep bid lower with no sales.
Oil Stove Fire Damages C D Mann Porch At Brighton
Brighton December 3 fire crews fought a blaze on the C D Mann porch when an oil stove tank overflowed and ignited from another burner. The porch sustained fire and chemical damage. Also noted were local church events and various Thanksgiving family gatherings across Washington County.

Burned to Death in Light Plane Crash Near Hawarden
Two Iowans died when their light plane crashed near the South Dakota border. Leonard Steklenburg 45 manager of Hawarden airport and Leonard Nechanicky 28 flying instructor at the airport were believed to be on an airplane coyote hunt. Sheriff S J Bjork identified them by keys and a watch.

A flash blaze last night leveled the Eclipse Lumber Co yard in West Burlington causing extensive damage. Fire units fought the flames as winds hampered efforts and nearby structures were evacuated. No injuries reported.
