Reports from Wieff dated December 1 describe mutinous sappers and Cossacks clashing with Black Hundred bands. martial law is proclaimed and bloodshed reported. By December 2 fear spreads in St Petersburg as telegraph lines fail and guards show disaffection amid rumors of a palace revolution.
President and party watch the Army Navy clash at Osborne field in Princeton as 25 000 spectators see a thrilling 6 to 6 tie. Mrs Roosevelt Miss Roosevelt and Secretaries Root Att and Loeb attend. Mrs Cleveland also witnesses the contest. President departs for Washington after the game.
After seventy five days and a record delay in Cook County criminal proceedings the twelfth juror is secured in the Gilhooley conspiracy case. Emanuel Romer an insurance solicitor completed the panel amid high costs. A flood threat looms near Pittsburg and the valley below. John Bartlett of Bartletts Familiar Quotations is dying at his Cambridge home at 83.
Premier Balfour visited King Edward at Buckingham Palace and is understood to tender his cabinet resignation. No dispatches from St. Petersburg or Russia, only a brief Warsaw message carried by Edylkuhen east Prussia during the night.
Buffalo December 4 The Switchmen's Union of North America says it is not taking part in the rail brotherhood push against government control of traffic rates. Fr T Hawley grand master says members do not fully grasp Roosevelt's stance and that the union does not oppose rate legislation though it seeks to curb discrimination and avoid wage cuts.
Milwaukee reports a $100000 shortage at the Skark Polski Mutual building society with secretary Frank Heller missing. Relatives will not cover the defalcation, and $15000 seems to have accompanied his departure. He allegedly secured mortgages to feign assets for the bank examiner. Indianapolis also announces the U M W annual convention set for January 16.
Escanaba Mich December 4 Clarence Lambert split his skull from forehead to crown while skating on Ford River. He remains in critical condition as emergency responders rush to stabilize him.
In Mexico City on December 4 the receiver for the Catholic bank that suspended payment reports only 18000 in vault funds. It is alleged that 9000 shares were issued free to founders who later sold them back to the bank for 900000, a transaction prompting scrutiny.

Washington December 4 1909 congress opened in both houses with routine proceedings but Speaker Cannon surprised by reading a typewritten address. Hepburn declared Cannon the nominee and the caucus renominated all officers for the new session.
The Democratic caucus unanimously nominated John Sharp Williams as speaker and minority leader. Williams outlined anti subsidy and anti trust principles, urged government regulation of railway rates, and affirmed marching to their own platform despite Republican endorsement. Offiers nominated without opposition followed.
William Dwyer of Porthod, Ohio, 35, who suffered a crushed skull and later mental decline, recovered after surgeons removed a brain abscess at University Hospital Ann Arbor. He requested death during surgery but regained sanity and plans to return to his family with his wife and two children.
Jed Adams, a former convict, was arrested with stolen goods after a Walnut Prairie post office burglary. Deputy Chief of Police linked Adams to the crime via a suspicious village sighting and he was taken from Terre Haute to Clark County for trial. Curtis Harris also arrested. Charles Book, a paper mill employee at Elkhart, Ind., died in a shaft accident.
Chicago markets report mixed receipts and varied prices across cattle hogs and sheep. Hogs show strength with 5 higher than open. bulk trades 4 80 to 4 90, light and mixed packers similar. Cattle steady to 10 lower. beef cattle 83 25 to 86 60, cows and heifers 1 30 to 4 70, stockers and westerns 3 10 to 4 75. Sheep and lambs steady with western lambs 5 75 to 7 60.
The October grand jury, in a special report to Judge Reynolds, condemns the St Louis police as demoralized by politics. It cites perjury, protection of fellow officers, and laxity in investigations including the killing of law student Pred W Scheel. It urges the Police Board to end political activity and insists officers vote their conscience.
The bodies of Henry McCaffrey G Carpenter and Capta lin Gilmer were found at McCaffrey’s Harriets town home. The coroner concluded Carpenter killed the other two and then took his own life. Mrs McCaffrey returned to discover the tragedy and had arranged Gilmer to assist while she was away.
