Wayland resident Wayland Andrew Zillman a 45 year old farmer testified he was tricked into becoming a partner in a gambling game in Kansas City Missouri. He says he was confined in a hotel room and forced to wire home the money.
Mrs. Julia Sheldon was raking up cabs in her Nashua garage when a wall-hung washtub fell and struck her temple, severing an artery. She was treated after the accident.
Carl Feureh's auto ran out of gas near Nashua. Gerald Allison, a filling station attendant, brought fuel to the stalled car and refueled it. On returning, Allison found his own car empty. Feurch pushed Allison's car back to town to avoid another wait.
The State University of Iowa crowned its first student monarchs at the Pica ball journalism party. Betty Jane Prochnow of Davenport was named queen and Robert Omaudson of Forest City was proclaimed student king. Both are juniors and the event was hosted by Hawkeye, the junior class yearbook.
In Waterloo two infants suffered serious injuries from household hazards. Robert Huebner, 1 1/2, bitten by a rat while asleep, remains with a severe arm infection. Doctors sent the rodent to Iowa City for study. Robert Harrington, 2, ate lye sprinkled bread under a bed, burning his mouth and throat and leaving him in serious condition at home.
Knoxville high school opens season as 19 players sit out the first game to protest a 10 cent per person charge for each game. Only one of the 20 member first squad wears a suit, while supporters on the floor include boys who had not yet reported for practice.
A bandit and an unemployed victim settled the amount to be stolen and split the loot. Hobart Bary, 22, a sign painter, was relieved of 76 cents but the bandit returned 50 cents after convincing the robber he needed the money more.

Relatives report the death of Mrs. Fred N. Anderson at her Oklahoma City home. A Washington, Iowa native born Mary Virginia Smouse, she lived in Cumberland Maryland and Washington before marrying Anderson. Survived by son Dr. Howard L. Anderson, Oklahoma City two sons How ard Lessing and Henry Donald, and sister Mrs Charles Stephens Pawhuska. Funeral conducted by Presbyterian pastor.
Mr and Mrs Max Marble Hen rietta and Bob Mrs Claude Tucker and Ruth Boller traveled to Davenport this morning to spend the day.

Iowa 1938 corn crop moisture on Nov 20 averaged 2.3 percent below the ten year average of 18.9 percent. Fully 70 percent of samples were grade three or better.
