Waterloo municipal judge George J. Sayer ruled 126 purchases by a single customer over 90 days at an Iowa liquor store were excessive, depriving James A. Harper of his liquor permit book and sentencing him to 30 days in county jail for intoxication.
Farragut report says the Ramsey rendering plant in Fremont County near Shenandoah has taken about 1000 cattle from farms in southeastern Iowa. Deaths are attributed to cornstalk poisoning.
A 14 year old lad with criminal tendencies was taken into custody by Probation Officer Stanley Jones. Officers found brass knuckles on him and learned he had bought a 22 caliber rifle with money from selling stolen bicycles.
Sioux City Wisconsin man Hy mie Elsberg stopped 17 year old Antigo resident Fay Erie with a flying tackle after a brief chase. Erie was held for the Woodbury grand jury on assault with intent to rob. The incident began when Erie allegedly tried to strike Elsberg with a club.
Des Moines Governor Kraschel pardoned Arthur Knight a former escaped convict on parole from the Anamosa state reformatory to keep the Knight family intact. The action followed prior steps by state officials including U S Senator Clyde Herring securing a postponement of deportation for Knights common law wife and one child.
In Washington county the Christmas seal sale raises funds for tuberculosis work. Rev. Carl W. Klein chairs the drive with school support led by County Supt. Lester B. Krabill. Seals sent by mail await remaining responses. Outside contributions double or quadruple funds for local health units and anti tuberculosis efforts.
Mrs Myrtle Deam, 47, files a 60500 dollar suit in Los Angeles court against Dr Jean Paul Fernel a Chicago plastic surgeon alleging a facial operation disfigured her. She claims Fernel proposed cosmetic work to promote a luxury liner project and offered a hostess job to recruit others.
John Wenger aged 70 of Wayland died at University hospital Iowa City after major operation and complications. Funeral services will be at Wayland Mennonite church with burial in North Hill cemetery. He was born February 1867 on the Wenger farm east of Wayland. Survived by widow Lenore Jay a son Harry Indianapolis daughter Mabel Witting Wayland four grandchildren and brothers and sisters Levi Chris Wenger Mrs Jacob Koebel Wayland Dan Wenger Winfield Mrs Joe Koebel Rock Island.
The county poultry show ends its fourth year with 439 birds from 49 exhibitors, 22 from outside the county. Joe Wolfe captures grand champion White Rock pullet and champion pen, with other top awards going to Ray Murray, D. K. Bailey, Joe Maylone, and Mrs. Walter Jarrard. The Beicher trophy goes to Wolfe. judge Oscar Grow commends the entries as the best yet. The Washington County Poultry Breeders' association promotes the event, open to the public with no admission fee, continuing Saturday evening until entries close at nine.
Five gunmen seized a $25,000 payroll in Lockport near Joliet after shooting bank messenger John West in the leg and kidnapping police chief Fred Lintner. The men, believed Chicago gangsters, forced the pair from the post office, wounded West, and dragged Lintner to a waiting car before abandoning him a mile away.
Hallie Daigh 39, formerly of Springfield, plans to resume life with her former husband the World War I veteran Enoch Arden style. He returned from San Antonio, found she had divorced him and remarried, and she is mother to a 17 year old. He spent a year in a German camp after being reported missing in action. Poison gas impaired his memory as he drifted as a structural steel worker before reaching Springfield.
Attorney Richard Leggett representing Oral Mayo dismissed the case against the city seeking a permit to sell beer at a North Iowa avenue tavern site formerly run by Joe Simm ering after council members testified. Leggett said evidence showed the council was justified in denying the license.

A car owned by Fred Lanc er was stolen last night from North Marion avenue near the parking area. Night Marshal Earl Jackson was notified when it disappeared around 11 o clock. the vehicle was later found in the Whittaker yards on North Marion, evidently left by the thieves.
Santa Claus will visit Washington tomorrow at ten o’clock as arranged by the Chamber of Commerce. He will give candy to children and is expected to attract a large crowd of Christmas shoppers as stores offer holiday merchandise.
The Iowa State Safety Council plans an organized 1988 campaign to urge courteous driving by commercial truckers. Firms will list owned trucks and drivers, pay a 50 cent per truck fee, and issue fleet division ID cards. Six month reviews will reward accident free drivers with a safe driving award. C. BE. Salem Oregon report states Raymond Hoskins age 49 admitted to embezzling 5500 dollars from Farmers Trust and Savings Bank in Rodman Iowa eleven years ago and agreed to extradition to Iowa to face charges.

McConnell, Joe Wolfe, Carl Mitchell, Harold Horak, Ray Murray, and many others across barred Plymouth Rock, White Wyandotte, Rhode Island Red, Jersey Giants, New Hampshire Reds, Leghorns, and various bantams with multiple firsts and placings.

Mrs Walter M Kleese aged 74 died suddenly of a heart attack at her home in Franklin township Titus community near Washington. She was born July 27 184? in the same farm she died on and married to Walter M Kleese February 5 1896. Survived by husband one daughter Mrs Jee B Tedford of Chicago two sons David H and Isaac L A Kleese both of Franklin Township six grandchildren. Funeral plans pending word from daughter in Wyoming at Sherman’s funeral home.
