The Audubon Society launches a national census of game and forest birds to protect crops, woods, and waters. Leading ornithologists form a committee under William Dutcher to oversee the effort as forest fires destroyed nests and millions of birds perished.

Chicago reports that police planned to press charges against a patrolman for arresting James Klapp in a car insult incident. The man taken into custody was James O. Klapp, Milwaukee rail official and reformer, accused by Gertrude Esau of nudging and using offensive language. The case was dismissed on doubts of identity, but the girl intends to pursue a new complaint.
Robert F. Maddox was elected mayor of Atlanta by a margin over James G. Woodward the regular Democratic nominee and twice mayor. Maddox was proclaimed the citizens' nominee at a mass meeting protesting Woodward's alleged immoral conduct.
Denver reports thousands of cattle on Colorado ranges have perished and many more are starving. The first October snow remains, grass is scarce and hay costs 25 to 30 dollars a ton as feed becomes prohibitive.
Evanston dispatch reports Mamie Turney of Albuquerque an orphan who, through her grandfather L. J. Turney's death, becomes owner of a rich New Mexico silver mine. She plans to reside at the mine and direct operations herself.
In Pittsburg on Federal street a robber escaped with two trays of diamonds and jewelry valued at 12,000 after imprisoning Theodore Frey and his clerks. A boy tracked the thief until police captured him.
In Hartford two chauffeurs W E Kibbe and W H Phair pleaded guilty to manslaughter for reckless driving causing two deaths. Phair received a three to four year state prison term and Kibbe faces sentencing today.
Rev Morris Kemp rector of St Chrysostom s Episcopal church is acquitted of charges brought by choir boys in Chicago. The decision ends a high profile case involving church leadership and accusations of misconduct from the congregation.
Mrs Gifford Dudley of Topeka Kansas was knocked down by an automobile on Broadway on Dec 3 her scalp was cut severely in the incident and she received treatment.
Market shows hog receipts estimated at 38000 with mixed packs and light hogs trading 5.10 to 6.85 while heavy shipping grades run 5.40 to 6.10. Cattle receipts about 500 with cattle and sheep markets steady to slightly lower and sheep weakness noted. Estimated receipts and official figures for yesterday and today are listed with ranges for beef and mutton along with grain and postal telegraph notes.

Dr B F Brayfield of Mulkeytown Illinois is indicted on murder and forgery charges connected to the deaths of his wife and Reuben Parrish. He allegedly sought to collect life insurance from fraternal orders and forged a death certificate affidavit. He was arrested and sought bail.
Mrs. Reuben F. Parrish in Sparta says she was shocked to learn the Benton grand jury is investigating her husband’s death. She claims he died of natural causes after a long illness, notes a $1000 life policy split for their baby and herself, and mentions leaving Mulkeytown to live with her mother.
Brownsville, Texas, Dec. 3. W. J. Bryan and Mrs. Bryan arrived back from Mexico where Mr. Bryan hunted. He then traveled to La Paravancha to spend several days, and at Mission, Texas, he bought a tract of land to plant fruit trees.
Railroad president James J. Hill will speak at a Peoria banquet on December 8 hosted by the Commercial and Creve Coeur clubs. T. A. Grier, board of trade president, received Hill’s acceptance by wire. Bishop John Lancaster Spaulding will give the invocation.
