Derby arraigned on murder charge
Larry Wayne Derby, 20, of near Richland, was arraigned on a murder charge in Keokuk County after the slaying of Herman Red Ahrens, 74, of Delta. Ahrens was found shot in the head by his daughter Melina Herrick in a room at his Delta home. Authorities say the weapon was a .22 rifle and Derby surrendered Monday at a Skunk River cabin near Richland. Derby admitted being in Ahrens’ home Monday.
