Death of Bishop James J. Davis at Davenport
Right Rev. James J. Davis bishop of the Davenport diocese died at 12 35 this morning after a year long illness. A native of Ireland born November 18 1852 he was 74. He served at St Peters Windham St Marys Oxford and St Michaels Holbrook before Davenport from 1889. He became vicar general in 1895 and was consecrated coadjutor archbishop in 1904 before succeeding to the Davenport see in 1906. Funeral set for 10 am Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral Davenport.
