Thomas E Grant 75, longtime Brighton and Rubio resident, died suddenly Monday evening in Oskaloosa. He was born March 16, 1873 in Witnois and had lived in Brighton 25 years. Survivors include five children, 16 grandchildren, and three sisters. funeral plans incomplete.

Sheriffs to Return Scrap Iron Thieves
Sheriff W. M. Putnam and Sheriff Earl Tremmel of Keokuk County left for Peoria to bring back two men accused of scrap iron thefts in the area. The duo allegedly sealed a cane mill near Rubio. The thieves’ identities were pinned when cane mill parts were found on Paul Richard’s farm, a brother-in-law to one suspect, with Kelly using the farm as a hideout for stolen metal. Kelly is also charged with burning a truck owned by an Illinois man to remove engine and metal parts.
