Secretary Glasgow reports strong entries and fine exhibits across departments at the county fair. Clear weather and rising attendance mark a promising event with three races carded this afternoon and about ten thousand spectators expected tomorrow and the next day.
The Chase-Lister Co presents the melodrama Against the World at the Graham with Grace Ewing in the lead and strong support from Miss Whipple Miss Berry and Mr Chase. Critics praise the artistry and cast while noting two drawbacks to the evening.
Washington mourns Major William Smythe veteran of the 160th Pennsylvania and former Harper grain and cattle trader. He died of apoplexy after rheumatism and was 71 next month. Brockway, with attendees including Tip Warner returning from What Cheer for O. M Snare’s funeral at Crescent mine. Harry and Miss Tona Ray from Ft. Madison visited the Reeves household.
