Hayes suffered a broken collar bone and minor injuries. Mr George Porter died yesterday morning after a two week confinement. Born December 25 1814 in County Armagh Ireland Porter came to America in 1838 then Iowa Des Moines County before settling in Washington. Funeral at family residence Tuesday 2 pm by Rev Allen Covenanter church pastor.

Badly injured man run over by horse near Webb’s barn
James Hayes and his young son were trailing a horse to a cart when the animal bolted. Hayes reached for the bridle to slow the horse, stumbled, and was struck in the head with the knee, running over him and causing flesh wounds and possible collarbone injury. his son fell from the cart unharmed. He was aided by family until a physician arrived.

Death of Pioneering resident O S Pickens
O S Pickens longtime Washington County pioneer died Saturday evening at his southwest Washington residence from heart and kidney ailments. Born November 22 1831 in Chautauqua County New York he lived on farms across the county before settling in the city. He married Myrtilla Matteson in 1851 and leaves four living children Elias L Francis E Eva May and Mary Alice Easter. Funeral services conducted by Rev Clifford Stewart were held at his home and interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Death of James Knox in Southeast Washington
Saturday evening at five o clock p m James Knox died at his residence in Southeast Washington after a prolonged illness. Born in Nenia Ohio June 2 1882 he was 64 at death and had lived in Iowa about forty two years. He leaves four sons and three daughters all grown. Funeral held at three this afternoon with interment in the old cemetery. He was described as a kind hearted good man and many friends saw his remains laid to rest.
