German prisoners of war from the Algona camp assist the Grinnell Packing Co as it opens its season. Manager Percy Ellis says prisoners are recruited from a pool for sites in Grinnell Gilman Toledo and Reinbeck. Up to 60 men may be brought daily from Toledo by guarded truck to work in warehousing silage and general labor with husking to come later.

William H. Jackson, 69, of Katona died about 8:30 this morning after a stroke of paralysis left him critically ill since Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday in the Christian church at Katona. R. H. Peterseim funeral home of Kalona handles arrangements. Surviving are his wife, a son Dale near Katona, and a daughter Marie Jackson of Washington.
