New Saigon Premier Named Amid Rioting Crackdown
Oanh, a 43 year old civil servant and former Khanh ally, will act as premier for two months until a permanent choice is named. He cited Khanh's illness to justify the appointment amid street gang clashes. Police say many youths lacked identity cards and some may be Viet Cong. Three people died in the violence, including a Catholic boy, as Buddhist and Catholic factions, with student and government involvement, agreed to a crackdown.
