Secretary of Agriculture Clinton P. Anderson ordered new livestock price ceilings. The measure, sent to OPA head Paul Porter, would lift hogs by 1.40 per hundred pounds and cattle by 2.25, with retail beef and pork prices rising accordingly. If implemented tomorrow, retail ceilings could start Sept 9. exact timing depends on when ceilings take effect.

Corn crop needs weather change in Iowa report
Des Moines reports slow corn development due to cool cloudy weather. About 75 percent of acres reach roasting stage with some denting, but most corn needs warm dry weather for maturity. Northwestern areas lack moisture, lowering yields in Dickinson and Osceola counties. Soybeans are good overall but northwest development slowed. Pasture is plentiful except northwest and northeast pockets. Red clover seed yields expected light in central and southern Iowa.
