Cairo dancers flee town after assault in Columbus Junction

In Columbus Junction a Cairo or Coucha- coucha dancer struck a country girl with a heavy club, leaving her unconscious. The assailant was arrested, tried before a justice, and fined $100 plus costs. The Cairo troupe was ordered to fold tents and depart the town.

Village Narrowly Escapes Lumber Yard Blaze

A noon telephone report from Harper described a near total village destruction by a big fire that began at 10 o clock in the lumber yard. Dry wood and sheds burned like pine shavings as villagers defended their businesses with buckets and improvised containers until the blaze was controlled by noon.
