In Winfield yesterday, Kopp's friends faced firm opposition from the Washington county delegation. In Columbus Junction a Cairo or Coucha- coucha dancer struck a country girl with a heavy club, leaving her unconscious. The assailant was arrested, tried before a justice, and fined $100 plus costs. The Cairo troupe was ordered to fold tents and depart the town.
The room above Washington Savings Bank is being plastered and redecorated to become a cosy space for weddings. Squire Rogers plans more events and hospitality in the hall of justice. A party picnicked at Robert Coulter's home near the city in honor of Miss Josie Knox bound for Cedar Falls State Normal School next week.
