Iowa July jobless rate dips to 3.2 percent
Iowa’s July unemployment rate fell to 3.2 percent, from 3.4 percent in June, as the state’s labor force reached 1,390,200. Nonfarm wage and salary workers numbered about 1,010,800, with manufacturing showing mixed changes and a seasonal government job drop. Unemployment totaled 43,800 in July, down from 57,200 in June.
Escaped convicts caught in Texas in deadly stakeout
Colorado prison escapees halted a four day three state revenge spree near Stephenville Texas. Police cornered Richard Magnum Jerry Ulmer and Richard Williams as dogs bayed and a spotlight shone. Magnum was killed. Ulmer injured and Williams unhurt. The victims included a widowed rancher and a farmer's wife.

Venezuela orders oil production cuts amid cautious demand shift
Venezuela plans to reduce oil output below three million barrels daily in 1975 as consumer nations curb use after the Arab embargo. Despite cuts, officials say major buyers in the U S and Canada will not face shortages while aims include trimming oversupply, conserving reserves, and moderating windfall income. Venezuela, the third largest exporter after Saudi Arabia and Iran, has about 14 billion barrels in proven reserves and has seen output fall from 3.3 million in 1973 to about 3.0 million today.
