Planting Lilies and Seasonal Garden Tips from Extension
Garden column by Jim Frier and Ben F. Vance advises planting lilies promptly after purchase to avoid drying roots. If delayed, store bulbs in a plastic bag in the vegetable crisper. The piece also notes not to fertilize semihardy woody plants late, avoid heavy watering, and water deeply before frost for evergreens. It highlights late August to early September as ideal for lawn establishment and reseeding, and to bring houseplants inside before cool nights and check for pests while outdoors.
