Des Moines Man Hurt In Car Train Crash
Lyman Graham, 37, of Des Moines, remained in critical condition after his car collided with a train at a northeast Des Moines crossing. The impact hurled him 49 feet, nearly severing his left leg, which doctors at Broadlawns General Hospital amputated. He also suffered head and chest injuries. Witnesses said he drove onto lowering barriers as bells and lights warned of the approaching train. the engineer sounded the horn but Graham continued. He was alone in the car.
