Fred D Brock Dies in South English
Fred David Brock aged 49 of South English died suddenly at home Tuesday from a heart attack. Funeral services set for Friday at 2 PM in the South English Methodist church. He was born June 1 1896 and married Edna Sigutoose on Sept 10 1924 in South English. He leaves a wife, a daughter Mary Ann, a son William and one grandson, with parents Oscar and Matheahs Brock and brothers and sisters listed as survivors. He moved from Washington to South English around his marriage.

Governor Blue said two clemency requests have been filed for Corliss R Bruntlett, sole death row inmate at Fort Madison state prison. Bruntlett is slated for execution February 18, 1949, for the murder of Percy J Smith, a 47 year old livestock dealer from Council Bluffs. He confessed to shooting Smith on December 8, 1947, dismembering the body and burning remains on kerosene soaked corn cobs after coercing a signed $9,800 check. Bruntlett argues the bones identified as Smiths may belong to a body dug up from a graveyard and burned.
