Stuart Iowa Mrs. Dan Boyd, 48, died from injuries after falling while attempting to climb basement stairs at her home. She had been gassed from an oil stove earlier, according to reports from local authorities.
In Dubuque Harold Trowbridge, 15, and Melvin Kaiser, 10, were found shooting dynamite caps from sling shots at a cement wall. David Meyers and Roy Frederick took about 75 caps from the youths and turned them over to police. Officers say a single cap could cause significant harm.
In Hamburg a 30 foot ravine collapsed while three farm boys played nearby. John Stewart Briggs aged 9, Robert Larry Briggs aged 6, and Olin Mullins aged 7 were buried under earth. Curtis Mullins, 4, escaped. The bodies were recovered hours later after Curtis led rescuers to the site.
DES MOINES state conservation commission issued a warning to hunters about rifle safety as the hunting season opens. Do not shoot across public highways or waters and avoid firing toward farmsteads or moving objects. The commission urged keeping the rifle always directed upward and away from people or property.
The Republican state central committee will hold a two day program in Des Moines led by chairman J. H. Milroy. A daytime session on August 30 precedes a banquet with candidates, followed by a meeting at 8:30 a.m. August 31 for state and national office seekers and a 10 a.m. gathering for legislature candidates outlining a united drive for seats.

Hines is on trial, accused by State's Attorney Thomas E. Dewey of acting as the political fixer for Schultz during Harlem policy racketeering.

Three prisoners escaped from the state reformatory in Anamosa Iowa last night and were recaptured within about twelve hours. They fled after exiting a wall and stole a guard's car, later being found shoe less and unarmed. Captures occurred at Monticello and between Ryan and Prairieburg about thirty miles from Anamosa. Suspects were Joseph Hesse 24, Harley Bradbaugh 20, and Max Hutchinson 25.
Senior class enrollment began today at Washington High School as total enrollment nears 400 with projections around 450 once school opens next Tuesday. Junior numbers totaled 105, with 96 freshmen and 90 sophomores registered. Principal George Fields expects more freshmen and additional seniors and others to enroll later as some students attend the state fair or Troop F at Camp Dodge.
Col and Mrs Charles A Lindbergh left Moscow today for an aerial tour to Odessa and then to Prague via Romania. They plan continued travel through the region visiting major cities and landmarks.
Margaret Schneider, a Washington tap dancer, will audition for Bill Robinson in Davenport. Robinson, widely regarded as a top American tap dancer, will personally attend the Sunday morning appearance.
Washington Aug 25 Secretary Wallace said a wheat subsidy program will be announced within a week to help exporters dispose of over 100 million bushels of surplus wheat. Total U S wheat on hand is about 1.126 billion bushels with 750 million needed for normal domestic use and export.
MT PLEASANT August 26. Red Fleming of Burlington was arrested for questioning in the death of Henry Marshall 54 fatally injured at a dice game after an American Legion picnic in Winfield. Marshall father of seven, struck on the head and died shortly after. Fleming located in Burlington later today. Funeral plans for Marshall not yet set.
In Prague on August 26, fear grew that violence would erupt as Sudeten German leaders gave party members permission to act in self defense against assaults by Marxists and Communists, signaling rising tension across the region.
Hollywood actress Carole Lombard says she gave about 85 percent of her 460000 film earnings last year to federal and state taxes. She notes taxes totaled over 391000 and after business costs she had about 20000 for herself, hoping to retire on about 8000 a year. She expresses gratitude for her living and for paying back to government.
