Art appreciation home-study course offered via library
A Metropolitan Museum of Art home-study art course is now available through the Washington public library as a gift from Mr and Mrs Richard McCleery. The 12 volume set includes lectures and 12 full-color reproductions per volume designed for group study. volumes may be checked out for one week by up to three to six people, not for children. Washington High School chorus tryouts end this week with director Vernon Feuerhelm urging remaining interested students to attend sessions in the vocal music room on Monday Tuesday or Wednesday.

FFA boys win blue at Iowa State Fair swine show
Sam West and Gary Wagner of the Washington FFA chapter exhibited swine at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. Sam West earned reserve champion with a Hampshire market barrow and both boys won blue ribbons in herdsmanship. Gary Wagner showed two purebred Poland China gilts and three Poland cross bred market pigs.

Three cars stolen in Washington County over weekend
A weekend spree in Washington County saw three cars stolen within 48 hours starting Friday night. Two cars were recovered, one remains missing. A 1955 Chevrolet from Wellman was found stripped in a ditch east of town. A 1954 Chevrolet from Washington was wrecked and recovered after a chase in Kalona. A 1957 Plymouth from a used car lot at Town and Country is still missing bearing 63 plates 92-7526. Local police investigate.

Four more killed on Iowa's roads this week end
Four persons died on Iowa highways boosting the 1964 toll to 496, with 400 a year ago. Victims include Norman Jones 27 Martinsburg Frank Niemeir 66 rural Amana Leland Simmons 38 Albia and Mrs Fay Spence 55 Indianola. Jones and Niemeir were killed and Jones' wife Blanche injured in a two car head on on Iowa 149 near Fairfax when their cars collided on a curve.

Riverside Names Roger Schloss New Mayor After Gould Resigns
Riverside council selected councilman Roger Schloss as mayor after Harry Gould resigned due to night shift work. A new council seat will be filled at the September 14 meeting. The panel approved plans for a new fire station costing up to 5000 dollars with volunteer labor and a donated bulldozer to remove the old building.
