Tragic Iowa crash claims 4 year old in Taintor area
Earl Stout Jr., 4, of near Taintor, died when a feed truck he rode in with his father Deputy Sheriff Dilworth Carter collided with a car driven by Max Ryan of Tainter. The truck overturned. Three other Stout children, Shirley 7 Jackie Lee 3 Gail Irene 6, suffered minor injuries and were treated at Mahaska hospital.

Conference on Morrells Dispute Gathers in Washington
Representatives of John Morrell & Co and the United Packinghouse Workers union will meet in Washington on Saturday to seek a settlement of the labor dispute at the Ottumwa plant. The plant operated at a reduced rate with only about a hundred hogs killed Thursday. The union labels the condition a lockout while the company cites worker resistance to changes needed due to lower supplies.

Killed While Jumping From Car In Curvenear Dump
Betty Hildebrand 22 of Griswold was killed instantly when a car overturned on a curve near the city dump. Pfe LeRoy Dodge also of Griswold, a returning POW, said they had been drinking and the car rolled while they parked by the dump. Dodge reached the horn as the car pinned his arm and Hildebrand cried she would jump. Police said nearly a case of empty beer bottles remained in the car. Dodge, held for the investigation, faces furlough and jail status after the incident.

Two Held for Robbing Soldier in Iowa City Case
Willmirth C. Thomas and Robert Powers were arraigned before Justice J K Bovee on robbery charges and bound over to the district court for September.
