Kalona resident Mrs. Ora Gingerich has been named rural chairman for the Iowa Children's Home Society drive in Washington County. The statewide campaign runs September and October, supporting adoptive and boarding home care for Iowa children. Fifteen Dead In Charleston C-119 Crash
A C-119 Flying Boxcar crashed on takeoff from Charleston Air Force Base into a residential area early today. Eleven airmen were aboard and feared dead, along with four civilians killed in their sleep as the plane demolished three houses. An Air Force doctor on scene said there were no survivors among the crew.
