Spain names Cuban and Porto Rico military commissioners

The Spanish government announced the official list of military commissioners for Cuba and Puerto Rico under the peace protocol. Major General Gonzales Parrado, Rear Admiral Pastory Landero, and Marquis Montoro will lead Cuba. Major General Ortega y Diaz, Commodore Vallarino y Carrasco, and Judge Advocate Sanchez del Aguila y Leon will serve Porto Rico. Army of Santiago Society Formed at Governor Palace

Fraternities in the United States met July 31 in the governor's palace in Santiago de Cuba to organize the Society of the Army of Santiago. It aims to preserve archives and memories of the invasion and battles that led to the fall of Santiago and surrender of the Spanish army on July 17, 1898. Neighbors intervened as the mother endured threats and the father rammed the necks of the children. The motive appears driven by temper and jealousy amid heat and alcohol. In Indianapolis Mrs. Thomas Murray pursued Miss Phyllis Henning to administer a whipping after learning of their liaison. She attacked Miss Henning at her visiting address, striking and hair pulling, before arrest.
