Theodore Dumolin of Davenport faced a judge after a drunk incident. He slept in a parked car to avoid driving and later woke in jail, admitting his intoxication. The court imposed costs but no fine as reward for his restraint and honesty.
For the benefit of the birds the duck shooting season in Iowa is cut back in daily limits and possession but extended across a longer window. Daily bag drops from eight to five birds with possession limits from sixteen to ten. Hunting allowed Wednesdays through Sundays from October 10 to November 18.
A woman inmate testified she was confined in a sweat box for sixteen hours. Meanwhile a special committee investigates the city dairy farm at Atlantic la. Serious charges may follow the inquiry.
An Iowa farmer from Ft. Dodge named Thomas Savage, 25, won first prize in the oil painting group for "Butchering" at the state fair art show. He studied under Grant Wood and his work is slated for display in the White House.
Mrs. Almeda Geloupe of Davenport asked police to arrest her husband during a family quarrel. Officers found him asleep and sober. She admitted losing her temper and was charged with disorderly conduct.
Mrs. Bertha Erdman 74 hitch hiked across the country and was taken into custody in Waterloo Tuesday. Robert Stewart appointed her guardian after her son, who found she carried $10,000 in old bills, filed the petition.
Two and a half year old son of Mr and Mrs Harold Olsen fell into a cistern at the family farm near Montpelier. Neighbors responded to the mother's screams and one man was lowered into the water to rescue the child, standing in water to his shoulders before lifting the infant to safety.
Iowa City police appeal to residents to report sightings of a man in formal dress shirts after thieves stole 105 shirts and a dozen pairs of shoes from a box car. Investigators suspect the garments may be linked to a local Hobo Convention in Britt Ja this week.

Wellman August 22 A farm residence on the Albert Bunnell place three and a half miles southwest of Wellman was destroyed by fire last night with contents. The family was away at West Chester when the blaze was discovered. Insurance valued at 300 dollars covered the dwelling and contents. Neighbors and Washington County fire units responded but could not save the four room home. This is Bunnell’s second fire incident in recent years.
Theft of between 40 and 50 chickens from Tom Deeres farm northeast of Washington was reported to the sheriff today. The fowls were stolen last night between nine and eleven o clock while the WheaWay family was away from home.

Nearly 900 people attended the James Pribyl funeral at the M. E. church in Richmond with about 300 cars in the lot. Rev. Fred Miller gave comfort from John 14 as a quartet sang hymns at the church and grave. Six nephew casket bearers and Kalona Odd Fellows in regalia joined services at the grave, with a tribute noting Pribyl as tender and merciful and deeply missed by family and friends.
Dr. F C Witzigman pastor of the Methodist church Washington joins Iowa and Illinois ministers and laymen on the sponsoring committee for a Forum Conference for Church Leaders at Cornell College October 22 23 and 24 The event will feature addresses by noted speakers on church leadership and related topics.

M H Kirchbaum Company Sioux City was told to dispose of stock by Sept 1. Criminal action for violation of liquor control law will be filed against the three firms. This may prompt constitutional review of Iowa's liquor monopoly.

Washington reports a new federal work relief plan to replace the Civil Works Administration. Relief Administrator Harry L. Hopkins will discuss plans this week as states are urged to double relief spending. Since May 3, 1933 the relief administration has spent 944 million with about 200 million remaining. The program aims to put workers on suitable jobs in public works, housing, education, health, and recreation and to remove eligible people from relief rolls.
Farmers with corn stored in cribs receive four extra months to repay government loans. The Ald extension moves due dates from Sept 1 to January with no-cost storage until March. The CCC holds 186 billion in corn loans and offers reclaim at 47 cents per bushel if grain is needed now.
