Lightning Sets Riverside Barn Ablaze Destroying Structure
A barn three miles northwest of Riverside, Iowa, burned after a Saturday night lightning strike. Hay inside was lost, one horse and one calf perished, three oat stacks burned. neighbors aided, two oat stacks moved. Insurance covered part. harness insured with foreign company. Nearby, Mr Lingo’s barn three miles southeast was struck but saved.

Pioneering resident Hobbs gravely ill with lockjaw
Mr Albert Hobbs of Pleasant County lies in a dangerous condition at his Faulkner's ferry home. A weed splinter infected his foot, leading to tetanus symptoms that worsened over days. Despite a normal wound, jaw stiffness, neck rigidity, and paralysis spread to the back arms and chest. Doctors inject food and medicine as hope fades.

Washington horses enter Columbus Junction fair races
This week at the Columbus Junction fair seven of Washingtons fast horses are entered in the races. A number of Derby runners from Davenport stop at Junction en route to Dubuque to contest there. Lavron is withdrawn due to poor shape. Miss Pat ran a mile in 2 20 with splits 1 09 4 and 1 10 showing strong form but limited against top three year olds. Washingtons entries will be in good shape and force fast work from challengers.

Dog saves boy as trolley halted by heroic Newfoundland
A Chicago Newfoundland dog stopped a trolley car to save its unconscious young owner on the track. A riot broke out between soldiers of the Thirty second regiment and North Leavenworth Kansas negroes, with one man wounded on each side. In Decorah Iowa between 1 and 2 am Sunday a severe wind and rain storm damaged city and country areas. Steyer's opera house roof was torn away and landed in the street, taking telegraph wires with it. Other structures including the Elks lodge, German Singing Society club rooms, Lutheran publishing house cornice, and several homes were damaged by water and wind. Nearby, many windmills and stacks of grain and hay were toppled.
