In New York a 13 year old boy Hd ward Sheddy was killed when a five pound rock fragment from a railroad tunnel blast crashed through the roof of his fifth floor room at 409 East Thirty fourth Street. The blast occurred during late night construction work on the Pennsylvania Railroad tunnel. police report contemporaneous blasting as the cause. A second report notes Mrs Beatrice Young shot a stenographer Catherine Morgan at the Hotel Imperial amid suspected jealousy.
Berlin August 21 Emperor William says he and the empress will not receive presents on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Instead contributions of money from society members or corporations for charitable uses will be welcomed.

The body of W. E. Jolly promoter of the excursion wrecked near Portsmouth is found floating in the river in Norfolk Virginia. He was from Greenville North Carolina and the incident occurred Thursday.

At Pittsburg on August 21 a platform collapse during the Beth David Russian Hebrew Orthodox synagogue cornerstone ceremony sent more than 500 people into a cellar. Rabbis Ashinsky Graffman and A Bloom and others were injured. one youth died later. Police and rescuers freed the crowd from wreckage as panic spread. Thomas F. Walsh, a mine operator, heads a prominent family in national society.
In Newport Rhode Island on August 21 a multi car crash left several injured. Evelyn Walsh, daughter of Thomas F. Walsh of Washington, is much easier but unknowing of her brother Vinson’s death. Mrs James L. Kerno chan of Hempstead L I and Harry Oelrichs and Herbert Pell of New York are recovering from cuts and bruises. The collision occurred while en route to a luncheon as the leading car struck the bridge railing and plunged six feet into a shallow stream, turning over.
A crowd of about fifty at McDonald Pennsylvania era Panhandle station was crushed between a freight train and a narrow platform as a passenger train arrived. Miss Lulu Nesbitt of Oakdale suffered the loss of a foot, William Harper of McDonald received back injuries, and Samuel H. Ridall of Wilkinsburg had an arm crushed.
Fifteen Italian laborers were crushed or hurt when a west wall collapsed at the Avenue theater ruins after a fire. Thirteen were badly battered, five serious. all expected to survive. All men were freed and sent to hospitals after workers moved a heavy iron joist.
