Terry L. Reschly, 18, of Washington, was arrested by sheriff's officers Friday night on larceny charges after a daytime break in at a rural farm home north of Washington. Jewelry and $100 in coins were reported stolen. Two accompanying juvenile females were not charged.
Washington police say two recent break-ins are solved after three juveniles admitted guilt. They confessed to burglaries including Melody Lanes bowling alley on August 8 and a vacationing residents’ trailer theft. Cash was taken in both incidents.
Light rainfall across the Washington area measured one-tenth of an inch in a brief shower that occurred shortly before daybreak. The short, early morning shower drenched streets and cooled temperatures as commuters began their day.
A Mount Pleasant couple fled their stalled car on railroad tracks as a Burlington Northern freight train struck and demolished the vehicle. Patrick Bray, a local pharmacy owner, and his wife escaped unharmed after recognizing the approaching train.
Mrs Ann Culver will visit Washington on Friday morning to campaign for her husband John Culver in the U S Senate race as a Democrat. She will attend a coffee at 9 30 a m hosted by Mrs Carol Giardino 312 East Seventh Street inviting interested persons to meet her.
Ground breaking for the new health care unit at United Presbyterian Home in Washington is scheduled for 11 30 a m Wednesday on the Home grounds. Rev Robert H French D D president of the Home board will lead the program with Rev Duncan Nichol and other leaders and residents taking part in the ground breaking.
Washington City Council moved operations to the new $225,000 municipal building next week and approved moving a central park fountain project. They extended paving work for the site, planned a mid October open house, and authorized disposal of obsolete records. The council also advanced sewer fund applications and cemetery fee increases.
Five inmates led by former Wichita Falls officer Darvin Meharg seized control of the Potter County jail after midnight. They overpowered two jailers injuring them slightly and threaten to kill hostages if retaken. Deputy hostages Don Sidwell and Stan Snitker were treated. inmates held on upper floors blocked by barred doors while talks continued with authorities.
President Ford nominates former New York Governor Nelson A Rockefeller for vice president after 11 days of secrecy. Rockefeller, 68, would be the second vice president chosen under the 25th Amendment if confirmed, with a career seen as liberal then shifting right and a peak profile amid Watergate era politics.

Three traffic accidents occurred Monday in Washington County with no serious injuries. A Hanson Concrete truck lost a cement chute on Highway 1 near a bridge, damaging two cars owned by Andre Crile and Gordon Hopkins. A separate crash on Highway 218 in Crawfordsville involved Orville Parson and Mark Talley, with $400 damage. The third incident, on a gravel road northwest of Washington, involved Thomas Quigley whose car spun into a ditch after losing control.
