Brother of victim charged with murder in Iowa case
Shelby County Attorney David B. Moore filed an open murder charge against 18 year old Jerry Connolly of Harlan for the stabbing death of 15 year old Colleen Connolly. Connolly, a former mental patient, was held under guard at Council Bluffs Mercy Hospital and scheduled to plead in court there.

Derailed Burlington freight derails near Albia causes evacuations
A 9 mile northeast of Albia derailment involved 40 to 50 train cars carrying Army munitions. Fire and explosions forced evacuation of 15 farm families within one mile. No injuries. Army depot officials planned to let the fire burn. Demolition crews from Savanna and Ft. Leonard Wood joined local authorities at the scene.
