Malcolm E. McMichael, 31, a Cannon Ball Transit Co. driver from Washington DC, was killed when struck by a passing car driven by R. W. Stewart of Van Meyer. Patrolmen reported McMichael paused and turned after a shout from a passing vehicle, then was hit a second time.

Lamoni Man Found Dead Near Tracks
The body of Benjamin L. Cracroft, 70, of Lamoni was found east of the Eighteenth Avenue crossing of the Great Western railroad near Marshalltown. Sheriff H. W. Jennings said an inquest will be held by acting coroner Judge L. R. Sheets to determine the cause of death.

Conservation to Take 25 Percent of Crops in Iowa
Iowa farmers in the 1942 agricultural conservation program will devote at least 25 percent of cropland to soil conserving crops. Albert J. Loveland says Iowa, a surplus producer of feed foods, will operate the Town farm program under the first of five USDA plans. Two Hurt In Fairfield Highway Wreck
Charles Halston, 66, and his wife, 59, of Fairfield were injured when their car left the soft shoulder on road No 92 east of the junction with No 22 near Ainsworth. The vehicle struck the south bank, about 150 dollars in damage, both sustained cuts and bruises and were hospitalized in Washington county. Mrs Halston suffered a slight concussion and remained in the hospital. Mr Halston was released.

D D Sherman 69 a Washington business and community figure died Sunday at 8 30 AM at his home 220 West Jefferson. He led the local Y M C A as its first president from 1924 until three years ago and served as president emeritus. Brighton Woman Drowns in California Pool
Maxine Waterhouse 21 of Brighton is believed to have drowned in a private pool on a Russell ranch near Berkele y California. She had recently worked as a caregiver in Piedmont and had been visiting relatives in Washington and California. Born October 25 1919 she graduated Brighton High in 1935 and worked as a synotypist at the Brighton Enterprise. She is survived by her parents a brother Robert and two sisters Louise and Irene with arrangements pending arrival of the body.
