Washington junior high hosts an orientation on August 19 at 1 30 p m for all incoming seventh graders and new eighth and ninth grade students in the Washington community school system.
FBI agents hunt for two men and two women in an armed hold up of Chelsea Savings Bank on Friday. Authorities cite a possible loss over 20000 dollars. Two women entered the bank to request coin wrappers as two men followed and locked two female employees in a vault before fleeing.
A Cedar Rapids man Dennis Stastny, 30, found in the Cedar River was declared to have died from a stab wound to the heart. Linn County Medical Examiner Percy Harris noted uncertainty over whether the wound was personal safety related. Police previously sought two suspects in connection with the case, but on Friday would not confirm if they remained at large.
An Army board of appeals refused Antoinette Slovik and her request to reverse Pvt. Eddie Slovik’s desertion conviction and award the widow $70,000 in GI insurance benefits. Slovik was the first American soldier executed for desertion since 1864, and his widow is an epileptic with no income aside from Social Security.

Alferd Packer the 19th century Colorado mountaineer who ate five men in 1874 will not be memorialized at the Agriculture Department cafeteria.
