Hurricane Slams Into Carolinas and Airmen Arrive
Funeral services for Sister Mary Waltrude, BVM 81, will be held at Mt. Carmel in Dubuque after she died from injuries from a fire damaged infirmary incident. She taught at St Marys High School in Riverside and had been a patient for years prior to her death. Father Pacha of St Patricks in Iowa City is her nephew.

Eleven American airmen freed from Red China return home

Parolee Knifes Hotel Owner and Wife in Newton
An Anamosa Reformatory parolee, Arthur James Downs, 22, knifed hotel owner M. Bill Konen about 55 and his wife after a noise dispute at the Graver Hotel in Newton Iowa. Mrs Konen hospitalized in good condition with wounds to the cheek head and neck. Downs fled but was captured about 5 15 a m. He had been paroled three weeks earlier after 33 months for breaking and entering and was living in a basement apartment and working in a foundry.

August Tinnes Jr Injured After Night Crash Near Keota
Keota area teen August Tinnes Jr age 15, son of Mr Mrs Peter Tinnes, was reported in critical condition at University Hospital Iowa City after a 2 am crash. His car overturned on a gravel curve near John B Weber farm eight miles southeast of Harper. He received emergency care from Dr K L McGuire before transfer. Injuries include a fractured left leg dislocated right hip both jaws fractured a badly cut left eye and multiple cuts and bruises.
