An advance detail of 65 men from the 168th Infantry Iowa National Guard based in Council Bluffs was isolated at Camp Dodge after one member, Daniel Vokt, 24, diagnosed with a mild abortive form of infantile paralysis. A head on crash in fog near here killed Ovide J. Bedard of Oak Park. His wife and 18 year old son were traveling west for a vacation when a Denver police officer, C. J. Rinne, pulled around a truck on a hill and the Bedards drove over the crest into Rinne’s path. The Denver based Rinne and the Bedards were in separate cars from Denver and Oak Park respectively.
