Des Moines residents Vincent Bach Barbara Huttins Amos Rodda died in a Carlisle crash, with Rodda’s wife Lorna hospitalized in critical condition.

UPI reports North Vietnamese and Viet Cong units massing for an offensive between Saigon and the Cambodian border. New fighting caused 41 American deaths and 170 wounded, including a DMZ assault that left 19 Marines dead and at least 80 wounded. General Abrams visited Dong Ha to discuss operations as two regiments of the 9th VC Division move toward northern Binh Long Province with a predicted attack before August 20.
