Altenbernd Funeral Saturday Afternoon
Roxanna Altenbernd of Dutch Creek township died early Thursday at the county hospital at age 74 after long illness. Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Sherman's funeral home with Rev. Arthur Peters officiating and Oak Ridge Cemetery to follow. She was born November 10 1875 in Scott County to James and Mary Mosier. She married Fred Altenbernd in 1894 and moved to Dutch Creek in 1920. he died October 8, 1939. Survived by son Howard of Dutch Creek daughter Mrs. Bernice Engel of Crawfordsville two grandchildren four brothers Owen Sullivan Harry and Henry Mosier all of Davenport and sister Mrs. Emma May of Davenport.

Car Truck Collision at Ainsworth Junction
Arnold Gast of Pearl City Illinois incurred 75 damage when his car at a four way stop was struck by Ralph Drinkall of Winfield. Gast stopped twice, Drinkall could not halt in time. No injuries reported. sheriff's officers investigated.

Lantz a 28 year old railroad worker from Tucson Arizona confessed to killing elderly Grinnell Iowa woman Mrs Adam Park while she resisted an attempted rape on the Southern Pacific Golden State Limited. Trainmen reported Lantz fled the train shouting of a murder as authorities investigated the death in a detached car.

Survived by son Oscar of Fairfield, two grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. wife Elizabeth Wendling died 1929. Brothers John Fairfield Joe Brighton Edgar and Raymond Miami. sisters Louise Hesser Aurora Ida Wendling Anna Duttwiler Brighton. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Royal Welcome For County 4-H Group In North Carolina
Washington county 4-H members and leaders received a royal welcome on Monday in Waynesville North Carolina as two chartered buses carried them to a week in the state. A highway patrol escort near Ashe ville led the caravan through Usat city. Thirty decorated cars at Haywood county line carried banners from communities and organizations. In Waynesville the group was welcomed at the courthouse by Jonathan Woody with the Waynesville high school band performing. Refreshments were provided by the Business and Professional Women’s club. A local paper note said Iowa visitors marveled at mountain heights and joked about road curves.
