Thunderstorms soak southeast Iowa with heavy rainfall

A pipe bomb planted by the Ludlow Brigade of the New World Liberation Front at Coors Timberline Distributors in Aurora did not explode. It’s the third Coors distributorship bomb in a month claimed by the group in support of strikers at the Golden brewery, where workers walked off April 5 over a contract dispute. Fire destroys another barn near Washington Iowa
A barn on the Merle Bates farm five miles southwest of Washington was struck by lightning early today and burned for about three hours. The 30 by 40 foot structure contained straw and was empty except for it. Firefighters prevented spread to nearby buildings and no damage estimate was given. The blaze followed a previous lightning strike that burned a much larger barn nearby a week earlier.
