A Muscatine man died and two others were injured in a head on collision on a narrow bridge over a creek on Iowa 22 about 1.5 miles east of Muscatine. Gerald Donnie Eis 41 died. Clifford Grant Adkins 23, a passenger, was in critical condition at Mercy Hospital Iowa City. Franklin Delanor Foster 34, driver of the other car, sustained non serious injuries.

Two rescued from river at Muscatine
At about 4 a.m. on the Mississippi River south of Muscatine two boaters fell over a spillway when their small craft capsized. David Gunderson 17 from Lancaster Pennsylvania swam to shore and, with Chuck Towne, helped rescue Robert Levy 25 of Mundelein Indiana and Brian Rickey 18 of Davenport. Levy suffered minor cuts but all were saved.
