Berlin dispatch reports the Soviet Union freeing Western barges held at the zonal border and permitting free circulation of currency in Berlin. The move follows two hours of talks in Moscow between Western envoys and Josef Stalin and may signal limited thaw in postwar Berlin tensions.

Rev. Milo J. Phillips of St. Pauls Evangelical and Reformed led last Sundays service with Nicodemus as theme. The August day service in Central Park is organized by the Y M C A with EF Dunlap as speaker and Richard A. Stewart presiding. Voters in the Prairie Flower rural school district yesterday approved a school bond issue for 35,000 to build a new school at the present site. The final tally was 73 in favor, 15 against with one spotted ballot, addressing a need after students were taught in two one room frame buildings. The second vote followed legal technicalities in the first election in May.

Rep John McDowell testified that atomic bomb materials including heavy water and uranium compounds were shipped to Russia in 1943 at the height of atomic research after alleged pressure by Russian agents. He cited shipments from a small U S airfield and said the facts came from secret hearings.

The Senate Banking Committee approved the long range T-E-W housing bill backed by President Truman, substituting it for a milder measure and sending provisions of the T-W bill to the floor for debate. The action aimed to clash with House Republicans over public housing and slum clearance features.
Selma C. Sommer 65 of 102 East Main Street died Wednesday night at 10 10 in University Hospital Iowa City after long illness. The contract covers 12482 feet of eight inch pipe 45 standard and six drop manholes a 10000 lift station and 2156 feet of cast iron pipe. Work should start within two weeks and must finish within 150 days barring extensions.
Third annual joint Izaak Walton league picnic for Chicaqua and Louisa County chapters planned for Sunday August 8 at Lake Odessa. A ten o clock trap shoot precedes a noon picnic dinner with boat rides horseshoes games and children's races. If rain the event moves to Grandview.
