The state board of education accepts a $639 gift to the Vinton school for the blind from Bianca EB Reel of Maquoketa. Arthur F. Janssen, Maquoketa attorney, notes Miss Reel had a brother who was blind and attended Vinton schooling.
Alice Ingebritson, 2, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Floyd Ingebritson of Hampton, suffered the loss of toes on her right foot and a knee injury after her foot was caught in the cogs of a grain elevator at home. She was rushed to Hampton hospital where doctors amputated about half of her right foot.
New Hampton druggist John McDonald left St Joseph’s hospital with his newborn baby girl to find his car missing from the parking spot. He recalled a similar theft after the birth of their first child, signaling a repeated scheme during family celebrations.
Ben H. Fletcher former cashier at the closed Dike Savings Bank pleaded guilty in district court to embezzlement and was sentenced to 10 years in Fort Madison prison by Judge George A. Wood. He was arrested May 2 and accused of embezzling 49000 from estate funds and 20000 from bank funds. The bank has since reorganized.
Judge Berry and Woodbury County Attorney Matrice Rawlings will examine Mrs Lucille Smiths claim that county relief was denied unless she charged her husband with desertion The witness said she accused Forrest G Smith 35 of nonsupport He is jobless and on 13 a week unemployment and was held to the grand jury under 590 bond The welfare agency involved was not named
Harper resident Don Altenhofen won first in the Keokuk county plowing contest with 93.7 percent. He topped 14 competitors at Yen-Ruo-Gis celebrations where each contestant plowed one acre in two hours.
The Iowa state printing board heard eight salesmen from ten firms bidding on liquor seals. Bids ranged from 33 percent cent to 1.72 dollars per 1 000. The board seeks 10 million seals with option for another 10 million at the same price.
DES MOINES Mrs. William J. Couts was granted a divorce after alleging her husband refused WPA work due to pride. She said he struck her and mistreated their two children before leaving town when WPA officials considered assigning him to a project in her place.
Des Moines reports little change in the Younker building service strike as negotiations continue between the AFL building service employees union and Retail Associates acting for Younkers. The ongoing talks involve union leaders and company representatives seeking a resolution to the dispute.

Rockwell City Iowa authorities investigate a double death in a Jolley farm owner EB E Harvey 65 and his hired man Cecil Vandermullen 32. Preliminary findings suggest Harvey shot Vandermullen then killed himself with a 22 caliber rifle in the bedroom. Police note it would be hard for Harvey to shoot himself behind the right ear.
The Centennial commission asks all Washington businesses to close on Tuesday and Thursday for the parade. Stores and professional offices should close at 9 45 a m and not reopen until the parade ends.

George Guy of St. Louis and John Shuchardt of Terra Haute were among the victims. the event occurred as crews labored on the ambitious interstate construction in Somerset, Pennsylvania.
Chief of Police Jay Brown announces next week’s celebration requires traffic rule changes around the square in Cara downtown. One way traffic will run along the square with half the street blocked for platforms and preparations. Detours will reroute No. 1 and No. 92, avoiding the square, and underpasses will be used on Madison and Fourth Avenue. No bicycles will be allowed on the square during the celebration.
