A cool front moved through Iowa with partly cloudy skies and scattered showers but little relief from record heat. Sunday highs reached 93 to 107 across several cities including Dubuque Council Bluffs Waterloo Red Oak Sioux City Des Moines and Ottumwa. Overnight lows ranged 73 to 82 as more thundershowers were expected midweek.
Markets show hogs opening about steady and closing steady to strong with several lots around 190 to 230 pounds trading from 16.50 to 17.50 per hundredweight and some 100 head at 17.50. Cattle and calves total about 11 000 with steers up to 25 higher and heifers steady. high quality grain fed cattle quoted in the 22 to 25 per hundredweight range with various weight classes. Sheep slaughter lambs remained about steady with prime lots at 25.00 for 80 to 100 pound lambs and other classes ranging 20.00 to 24.50 per hundredweight.
Clear Creek 4 H club Achievement Day drew 32 members mothers and friends to Clear Creek hall. Pauline Helscher president led a brief meeting and roll call. New treasurer Betty Peiffer elected. Diane Weber and others listed for county fair entries. A bridal shower for Irene Hole preceded wedding to Robert Bodkins tomorrow at West Chester Federated church.
