Edward Prebys on a eastbound county road collided with J R Horak as he exited a farm driveway twelve miles northeast of town. Weyne Horak, Delores Horak and family passengers were unharmed beyond Weyne's nose cut while Prebys' wife and two children rode with him. Poor visibility from willows in a ditch contributed to the accident.
Dr C A Owen, speaking in Washington, traces United Presbyterian mission growth in Egypt from three Cairo churches 28 years ago to more than a dozen now. He notes self supporting native churches with Egyptian pastors, many trained at Assiut college where he faculty, and outlines mission handicaps and Egyptian religious history.
Aug. 3 Hampton report details a $1,000 theater robbery. A smashed safe and a stolen truck were used to haul the safe to a by-road east of town where it was rifled. Loot totaled $1,000 in cash and papers. It was unclear how many burglars were involved. The Windsor theater, run by Charles Peterson, was entered before five this morning after a truck was stolen from Virgil Murphy.
Des Moines dispatch reports forecaster Charles D. Reed predicts showers in the southwest and north central Iowa as two months of dry weather end. He says the showers will be locally important but not a general break, with latest rains expected to be scattered and not widespread.
Chris Miller a Kalona banker in serious condition at Town City hospital after a collision on road 161 north of Riverside Saturday. Franklin Brenneman, driver, injured less severely. A large Muscatine truck was involved. The men were returning from Iowa City where they had visited J D Brenneman who is ill in a hospital there.
Iowa Governor Herring announced 2,250,000 dollars in feed loans for Iowa counties and pressed for additional federal relief. A WPA allotment to supplement the loan fund is anticipated, with plans for farm to market roads to be built by local farmers working with teams. Ralph Kittinger, L. S. Hill, and George Keller joined the talks with federal officials in Washington.

Washington August 3. An effort to unite labor factions fell through at a federation executive council meeting. A planned trial of twelve rebel unions seeking to organize steel and allied industries along mass or industrial lines did not proceed.
The AFL executive council moves toward a showdown with 12 leaders of the Committee for Industrial Organization led by John L. Lewis. They refused to appear to answer charges of dual unionism and rebellion for trying to form one big union in mass production industries. A council majority may suspend Lewis and allies or refer the matter to the Tampa convention in November.
Mr and Mrs J W Bottcher visited yesterday at the C A Curry home in Cedar Rapids.
John Custer with the Farmers Mutual fire truck saved structures on the Cherry farm owned by A. B. Carr from a grass fire that spread from Carr to land owned by G. W. Beliel. The Beliel pasture suffered about ten acres burned and 75 to 80 fence posts burned. the Carr area saw pasture damage, fences torn, ties and a wagon damaged, with flames nearly reaching buildings. A separate grass fire in town ignited from a bonfire near 421 South Avenue B, extinguished by resident George C. Stewart.
Archie Wood of Fayette Indiana with 40 entries leads Iowa’s bid for the top rating judged in a show drawing participants from Waterloo Cedar Rapids Des Moines Sioux City Ames and Colfax. Early heat threatened the display forcing early blooms and later varieties withering. Eastern entries come from Flying Cloud farm Bedford Mass and Champlain View farm Burlington Vt.
Five persons were killed in weekend accidents on Iowa highways raising the 1936 fatality toll to 246. Victims include Edwin Murray and Romans Murray and 9 year old child from Kingsley, Jud Duckwitz 56 Stacyville Harold Horman 25 Falls City Nebr Dorothy Hert 6 Mason City. The Kingsley family was hurt when the car carrying Mr and Mrs Cal Murray and the two boys wrecked near Brunsville. Duckwitz died when his car overturned.

Des Moines August 8 The Iowa State Planning Board reports parole decisions rely on sketchy data and state records are inadequate. The survey also finds Eldora Training School used partly as an orphanage and home for the feeble minded, though not the institution’s purpose. Field work was done under the relief administration and the report published by the Works Progress Administration.
Iowa counties to receive an 11.55 million tax refund as a credit against the second installment of 1935-36 real and personal property taxes. Checks will be mailed. if a taxpayer already paid both installments, refunds go to cash or county poor fund if under 50 cents. List of county allocations and state income sources provided. John K.
