In Marshalltown a marriage license was issued Friday the first since July 18. The couple Frank Tasler and Minnie Lizzia, both of O'Neill Nebraska, are the recipients.
Mrs Joseph Burri sustained a head wound when the dinner bell she rang from the farm house tower fell this week at Cresco. No further injuries or details provided.
A gang active in Iowa during the last month burglarized the Wap sie Valley Creamery Co in Masonville. Three thousand pounds of butter were taken in the break in.
Two steel viaducts costing $250,000 are being built by the Milwaukee railroad southeast of here on its Chicago Kansas City line. The viaducts span Kinser and Soap creeks near Moravia.
WINTON F. W. Keller of Alburnett bumped into Sheriff Leland A. Fry’s auto and was fined $100 for reckless driving. Henry Wahl of Cedar Rapids, riding with Keller, was thrown through the windshield and suffered head cuts.
E J Feuling publisher of the New Hampton Tribune Gazette buys the Lawler Dispatch. C H Leonard who owned the paper 25 years will continue to operate it under Feuling supervision.
Tipton reports Cedar county farmers urged to keep filled water tanks and ladders handy while fire danger lasts. West Branch firemen have battled five farm blazes in the past 36 hours.
Maintenance engineer Kohn Strobelin, 79, who fell from the Bettendorf Moline bridge while making repairs Thursday, remained conscious Friday. He landed on railroad tracks 40 feet below.

In Des Moines seven orphan collie pups learn to drink milk from a bottle after their mother, a victim of a wholesale dog poisoning that killed at least five dogs within four hours. The incident drew police scrutiny as parents feared harm to small children.
A second treasure hunt targets more than 20 thousand dollars in bonds believed hidden on the Iwers' broodery farm near Durant. Authorities say over 200 thousand dollars in cash and securities have already been recovered, with more expected on the farm as Louis Voss co administrator reviews the case with others.
Gladys MacKnight, 17, and Donald Wightman, 18, are held without bail in Bayonne, New Jersey, on grand jury charges of killing Gladys mother Helen MacKnight with a hatchet after a quarrel over their romance. The body of George H. Rogers of Chicago, who died suddenly in Washington, was sent by train to Chicago for funeral services next Monday and burial in a Chicago cemetery. Rogers, a traveling salesman for Ginn & Wo Chicago book publishers, died in minutes at the high school office. He was unmarried with no immediate relatives but had distant kin and was a World War veteran.
Prof. Norman Foerster, director of the school of letters at the University of Iowa, will deliver the summer convocation address to the second term graduation class. Nearly 200 graduates will receive degrees at the convocation.
The wife was willed John Iwers' 350000 dollar estate and no further assets have been found in recent searches. Administrators and their attorneys will accompany the court appointed treasure searchers overseeing the money.

The State theater hosts beauty nights August 4 and 5 to pick Miss Washington of 1936 from local entrants. In Berlin today Chancellor Adolf Hitler mounted the stadium tribune to formally open the Olympic Games. Tens of thousands lined the 15 mile route, with hundreds of thousands cheering as he saluted and declared the games open. The event drew intense crowds inside and outside the arena.
The clerk of the district court reports sixty marriage licenses issued in the first seven months of 1936 under Clerk Robert R Noonan. June led with seventeen licenses and February had ten while January and July each had eight. March seven April six and May four followed. No licenses were issued in the county for the last week with the latest on July 24.
Delores Daly a 19 year old San Francisco girl helped capture fugitive John Mercer wanted for the murder of Robert Sproat at Tipton in 1938. She filed for a state reward of $250 plus Cedar county's $225, with Governor Herring and Chief Schmidt weighing payment. Schmidt suggested two policemen receive $25 each and Daly keep the remainder.
Lloyd Durst and his daughter Marian were seen shopping in Wellman yesterday afternoon as local residents report a busy day at the stores.
Funeral services were held at L A Jones funeral home for Mrs J H Hamm of eight miles southwest of town who died yesterday afternoon after a long illness. The body will be sent to Geneseo Illinois for Sunday services and burial. She was born Mable Elizabeth Jesser in Geneseo January 27 1878 and married J H Hall in Muscatine October 17 1894. She leaves a husband an adopted daughter and many siblings. She attended the Lutheran church in Davenport and belonged to the Royal Neighbors lodge.
Funeral services for Miss Syl via Warren were held yesterday morning at the Warren home 212 South Second avenue conducted by Rev M C Caarsten sen of the Baptist church. Pall bearers were Walter and Peter Jungbluth Willis Jones Lester Jones Delbert Bailey and Kenneth White. Burial was tolm Grove cemetery.

Des Moines reports a 20 percent rise in July special tax receipts led by gasoline and cigarette taxes. Gasoline brought in 1,790,788, cigarette 161,336, beer 126,442, with inheritance taxes falling from last year. The gains reflect a fiscal year upturn ending July 1.
