Johnson urges prompt gun control action in wake of Texas massacre

A 17 year old Rigober to Acosta Irizzary was shot in the back by sniper fire and admitted in serious condition to Cook County Hospital. Nine people were arrested as Puerto Rican youths clashed with police in a Northwest Side neighborhood in a riot following the shooting and a fatal police shooting of Ismael Le Roy.

UPI reported that a numerically outmatched U.S. Army 25th Division unit repelled a six hour Viet Cong assault on a Central Highlands battlefield about 10 miles from the Cambodian border. American casualties were described as light while Communist losses were not known. The clash followed other skirmishes linked to Operation Paul Revere, signaling possible larger battles ahead.

Man charged after ride at gun in Cedar Rapids

Francis Brown, 48, jailed on bond after police say he pointed a gun at two men and carried a concealed weapon. Brown allegedly forced Wallace Goodwin and Frank E. Cole to drive him around Cedar Rapids for over an hour before stopping at a tavern and buying drinks.

Search Underway For Missing Boat Darlwin

A large air and sea search is underway for the 45 foot pleasure launch Darlwin missing after it vanished Sunday off the Cornish coast during a 40 mile trip from Falmouth. It carried two crew and 29 passengers including seven children. A 50 mph gale blew up sending small craft to shelter as storms raged all night. The dinghy was found empty near the Eddystone lighthouse ten miles off England’s southern coast. A vast search, involving RAF planes and helicopters and boats, was launched with little hope anyone aboard would be found alive.
