William A. Holland, 23, Cedar Rapids, faces first degree murder charges in the July 24 fatal shooting of Fred L. Hober, 62, near Clutier Iowa. Holland, jailed in Tama County Toledo without bond, confessed after turning himself in at Cedar Rapids police. He said a motive was money for a trip to Rapid City South Dakota.

Mason City Man Dies When Car Hits Train
Paul T. Dolan, 34, a telephone company employee in Mason City, was killed when his car struck a Chicago and North Western Railroad freight train at a residential crossing. Witnesses said signals were working but fog reduced visibility as the train dragged the car 432 feet and demolished it. The train crew, unaware of the collision, reported after arriving at the yards.
