Jimmie Larsen, 12, is breathing normally again after doctors remove a whistle lodged in his windpipe. The boy had been wheezing loudly while lying on the floor with the whistle in his mouth to keep it away from a younger child. The object was retrieved in a hospital on Monday.
Iowa City funeral services are set for John Storm 102 who died Saturday at Lone Tree. A Civil War veteran born July 4 1842 he retired from farming. Survived by daughters Nettie Nichols West Liberty and Dale Gunderson Albert Lea Minn and eight grandchildren.
Walter H. Kerkman, 60, well known Massena farmer, drowned Monday afternoon in a reservoir at his farm near here. He was bathing when the drowning occurred, water depth about five and a half feet. His nephew Charles Speiker, 6, was present and raised the alarm. Kerkman survived by his wife and a son.
Iowa Junior Chamber of Commerce executive board votes to create a statewide Nile Kinnick scholarship fund of $50,000. Funds to come from all 37 Iowa chapters and support four $250 annual scholarships at the State University of Iowa for students who mirror Kinnick's sportsmanship character and scholastic merit.
Dr. James Bisgard, 77, has delivered over 5 000 babies in half a century at Harlan. His first delivery was Mrs. Mike Nelson, daughter of Rev and Mrs. Marcus Jensen, marking his golden jubilee. Known as Old Doc, he owned Shelby county’s first automobile, an 1904 Oldsmobile, before practicing by horse and buggy. His two sons, Dr J Dewey Bisgard and Lieut Com C Bisgard, also worked with him at times.
In Manchester Burdette Menge 15 of Greeley dies by drowning while saving 14 year old Burton Kruger son of Ben Kruger of Edgewood. They swam with Harold Brady son of Fred Brady of Edgewood. All were novices at swimming.
Creston Rose Marie Case four year old daughter of Pvt and Mrs Lyle Case died Monday from burns suffered July 19 while attempting to light a bonfire. The incident occurred in Creston as the child tried to make a blaze.

Lt Wendell Baker a H 24 bomber co pilot in Italy is in an Italian hospital with a slight wound he described in a letter to his wife and parents received today he was wounded around July 20 and the plane landed on water after which the crew was rescued Baker has been with the air forces in Italy since mid April
Des Moines coroner opened an inquest into the July 23 collision of a Washington Iowa car with a Jefferson Line bus north of Ankeny. Victims were William L. Spenler 17 Bernard E. Swift 23 and Darlene Lukovsky 17. Arylus Larson 17 was injured seriously and listed in fair condition at Iowa Lutheran hospital.
The WSUT radio broadcast from Iowa City this evening at eight o'clock is not a memorial for Captain Maynard D Dix who remains alive. The program is a tribute to the service of an Iowa air services member with a notable career.
County Superintendent Lester B. Krabill said eleven or twelve rural schools still lack teachers for the coming year roughly starting August 21 to September 4. A car driven by Harry Horak struck the rear of a truck driven by Dave Miller northeast of town this morning. No injuries were reported. The car sustained about $200 in damage while the truck suffered little to no damage.
The fifth war loan report from the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago credits Washington County with purchases totaling 1 279 876 50 against a quota of 1 242 000.
